Born in Munich, Barbara Hintermeier studied oboe and recorder in her home town. Her interest in historical double-reed instruments brought her to Basel to the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, supplemented by studies of baroque oboe with Prof.J.Schaeftlein at the Hochschule für Musik in Vienna. Decades of teaching activity formed the background for her publications of numerous educational works for recorder, including the "Flötenlilli" for young musicians from the age of 4. In 2015 she was awarded the German Music Edition Prize "Best Edition" for one of her books.
She currently lives with her husband, daughter, dog and numerous flutes in Munich and the Bavarian Forest, teaches in her own recorder studio, works on new flute books and holds numerous courses.
